Tarte is cruelty free but not 100% vegan

Tarte does not and will not conduct animal testing on the finished products or ingredients, nor does it ask others to test on its behalf. All necessary tests are carried out on human volunteers. The brand does not export to mainland China and other countries with mandatory animal testing. Tarte is proudly cruelty free and firmly stands against animal testing.

A: Tarte cosmetics is a cruelty-free cosmetics line & has been since 2000! Tarte makeup & skincare is never tested on animals. We are also an approved PETA participant.



Tarte is an American mid-range makeup and skin care brand.

Parent company

Kosé completed the acquisition of Tarte in 2014. Kosé is not cruelty free, the company supports animal testing and heavily present on the Chinese beauty market. Despite the acquisition, Tarte remains against animal testing.


PETA awarded Tarte with the Beauty Without Bunnies certification.
