Sun Bum is cruelty free but not 100% vegan

Sun Bum pledges that the brand does not conduct, contract out or fund animal testing in the developing, manufacturing or marketing of their products. Whilst Sun Bum recognises the importance of customer safety, the brand believes this can be sufficiently achieved without animal cruelty. Sun Bum is cruelty free and stands against animal testing. Furthermore, Sun Bum does not export its products to mainland China and/or other countries, where animal testing is required by law.

Cruelty free statement

Q: Does Sun Bum test on animals?

A: Sun Bum is cruelty-free. Our products are not tested on animals ever.

Sun Bum is an American mid-range sun, skin and hair care brand.

Parent company

S.C. Johnson completed the acquisition of Sun Bum in 2019. S.C. Johnson is not cruelty free. Despite the acquisition, Sun Bum remains cruelty free.

Our commitment to transparency has unfortunately given people the impression that we use animal testing all the time. We don’t. We choose non-animal testing methods wherever possible. In fact, many of our brands like Windex®, Glade®, Pledge® and Shout® are not tested on animals.

We must comply with legal requirements in countries that require testing for certain products, however, and given the health benefits of these products, we continue selling them even as we keep fighting to end the testing requirement.

  • PETA awarded Sun Bum with the Beauty Without Bunnies certification
  • Cruelty Free International awarded Sun Bum with the Leaping Bunny certification

Vegan status

Not all Sun Bum products are suitable for vegans. Please always check the ingredient list of the product before making a purchase.

Vegan statement

Q: I am a Vegan. What products can I use?

A: Most of our products are Vegan including our Original Sunscreen Lotions (SPF 15-50), Original Sunscreen Sprays, Mineral Sunscreen Collection, SPF Lip Balms, Cool Down lotions and sprays along with our extensive line of Baby Bum and Hair Care products.
